Beth Howard- Miniature quilts. Bio info. I was born in Battle Creek and have lived in the area all my life. I started quilting in the late 1970's. I was active in the founding of the Cal-Co Quilting Guild in 1983-1984 and still remain a member. In 1991 I was voted the first "Quilter of the Year". I taught quilting at the Valentine Center, Harper Creek, Lakeview, and the Burnham Brook Center. At this time I belong to the Spring Chix quilting group and we make small quilts for charity. Quilting has been a joy and an important part of my life.

Debra Danko of Grand Blanc, Michigan will be joining us on March 8, 2010 to speak about her stunning floral quilts and the art and textile techniques she uses to create them. Her award-winning work is seen in international quilt shows, exhibits and quilting magazines. In a slide presentation, she shares her inspiration from her love of gardens and presents how beautiful floral images are reproduced giant size in fabric and thread. She brings with her a trunk show with many colorful quilts. Traditional and contemporary quilters and non-quilters alike will enjoy time spent with Debra.
Lecture Description: FROM TRADITIONAL QUILTS TO FABRIC GARDENS
Debra's slide show journey begins with a quick retrospective of her earlier traditional quilts leading into an in depth look at the creative process behind her fabulous oversized floral wall hangings. You will see photos of the flowers that inspired each quilt and in progress slides of the artistic and sewing techniques she uses. She also brings a trunk show that includes many of the colorful works seen in the slide presentation.
There wil be two workshops held:

Carol Loessel loves traditional quilts. Her quilt designs reflect this. She began quilting in the early 1970s when all that was being taught were traditional methods for traditional quilts. She, herself, began teaching quilting classes in 1980. This former elementary school teacher loves inspiring others to be creative and finds that her students in turn, inspire her!
Imagine the collection of fabric scraps Carol has accumulated over all those years of quilting! This collection has led to some creative quilts, and after being told numerous times “you should write a pattern for that quilt”, she did just that! She began her “Recipes for Leftovers” series of patterns in 2006. She is now working on her second pattern series, “Thanks, Grandma”. Her patterns can be found in quilt shops locally and in neighboring states; also on-line at www.thepatternpeddlers.com. House of White Birches published her first book, Start With Scraps, in November 2009.
Carol has been a (long-distance) member of Cal-Co Quilt Guild since 1990.
She lives in Macomb, MI and can be reached via e-mail:

Gwen Marston
www.gwenmarston.com
It is with a very heavy heart that we have to announce the cancellation of Gwen Marston for our June program.
Lack of sign-up for the workshops make her visit impossible. She was very gracious and understanding. Please pass the sad news on to non guild members we are unable to reach through the newsletter.
June Program
The June program has been changed to Quilter of the Year appreciation. We will be honoring past and present ladies!!
