This project is chaired by Cindy Mumford and Pam Schultz
Proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets are divided
between S.A.F.E. Place and The Charitable Union.
S.A.F.E Place is the women's shelter
for Calhoun County.
Charitable Union
provides assistance for families in crisis.
The process of creating the raffle quilt begins more than a year before the actual drawing. Once the
project leader is identified, a design must be selected and fabric purchased. The fabric is
cut and organized into packets with directions to be distributed to guild members for sewing. At the next meeting,
the completed packets are collected. The project team then assembles the quilt top. Next the
quilt must be layered with batting and backing. At last, it is ready for quilting. The guild
feels that hand quilting is an important part of this project. This can take several months.
Once the hand quilting is completed, the quilt still needs a binding. The finished quilt is
photographed, tickets printed, and the sale of tickets begins. During this time the license
has been acquired. Then we are ready to sell someone the winning ticket.
