Chicago International Quilt Festival Trip
There were more that 300 quilts and Afghans donated and displayed at the quilt show
A big THANK YOU to all who participated in the Project Linus Challenge. Many children will be comforted by your love and effort you put into all the beautiful quilts. A special Thank You to Connie and Marilyn who organized the entire project. Not only did they do a wonderful job of coordinating our effort but found a new organization to participate with once ABC quilts notified us they were disbanding. The Kalamazoo Chapter of Project Linus will be sewing the labels into our quilts on 4 Nov 06 from 10-2p at the Viking Store in Kalamazoo. The address is: 5401 Portage Rd. They are located in the plaza just before the light for the airport, right behind Field Fabrics. All help from our guild will be greatly appreciated.

The Brown Bag Challenge is an annual activity that allows each of us to explore our creative quilt making talents. Participants select fabrics of their choice, place them in a “Brown Paper Bag”, and bring them to February meeting. During the meeting break, if you bring a bag, you select a bag. You take the bag home and make up a miniature quilt top (ONLY) with the fabrics from the bag you selected following the rules outlined below. You must use some of each of the fabrics in the bag. It is fun and it can be challenging to work with fabrics outside our own comfort zone. The quilt tops are collected and the makers present the owners the quilt tops at our July picnic meeting. If you are unable to attend the July meeting, please make sure your completed quilt top does! Please consider participating in this challenging Guild activity.
Place 5 fat quarters of cotton fabric in a small brown paper bag.
On the outside of the bag, write the letter that corresponds to YOUR
choice of design approaches:
A ALLOW ONE (The maker may add none, or only ONE
fabric of her choice along with those you have placed in
the bag to complete a miniature quilt top for you.)
-- Or ---
B BE CREATIVE (The maker may add none, or as MANY fabrics
a she chooses along with those you have placed in the bag to
complete a miniature quilt top for you.)
Write YOUR name on a piece of paper.
Place it in an envelope.
Attach the sealed envelope to the outside of the bag.
Bring the bag, marked with A or B to the February meeting.
Place it on the collection table. The sealed envelopes will be
removed during the break. You will have the opportunity to
select a bag to work with. The quilt tops are due back by the
JULY 2005 meeting, along with any remaining fabric.
The sizing requirement is based on adding up the outside edges:
Minimum: 24 inches Maximum: 96 inches
